Overview

I value education, so if the therapies listed below are just another abbreviation to you, don’t fret, I will explain each therapy extensively during session. I assure my clients are educated as to how each therapy works...let me be your translator!

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), both of which are evidence based treatments for survivors of trauma. I am currently working towards certification through the Sexual Health Alliance to become an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. I am also informed on evidence based treatments such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), all used to treat a variety of mental health concerns.

Trauma Therapy

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based therapy that is used to explore and heal from past trauma. During EMDR, I instruct you to do certain eye movements that mimic REM sleep. REM sleep is a time of abstract thinking, which is why your dreams during REM tend to be so odd. By mimicking REM, one is able to explore their trauma in a way that goes beyond basic talk therapy. Bizarre, I know, but time and time again, the research has shown EMDR to be effective in some sort of change in understanding. I have noticed EMDR is beneficial for those trying to “make sense” of their past trauma, or answer the question “why am I like this?” I am trained by the EMDR Institute, INC. Sessions are 50-60 minutes.

CPT

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a 12 session, evidence based structured therapy designed to tackle the negative beliefs born from trauma that prevent you from living the life you want. Each session has its own curriculum and we measure your progress along the way. I have noticed this therapy to be beneficial to “the avoiders”, those who avoid relationships, parties, public spaces, etc, as CPT directly challenges the beliefs that cause you to avoid. I have also noticed CPT resonates most with those who thrive in structure. I am a registered CPT Provider.  Sessions are 50-60 minutes.

Sex Therapy

"Sex Therapy" is an umbrella term that treats a diverse set of concerns. As a therapist who treats survivors of trauma, my area of focus within sex therapy is working with those whose past trauma is impacting their intimate and sexual relationships. In our work together, we identify the obstacles interfering with the sexual experience you desire and learn strategies to overcome said obstacles. Although our focus can aim to dismantle trauma's impact on your sexual life, we will also explore societal values that may contribute to feeling as though something is "wrong" with your sexual experience. I am in the process of becoming a AASECT Certified Sex Therapist through the Sexual Health Alliance.  Sessions are 50-60 minutes.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, we learn to view the past with acceptance, dive "head first" into present obstacles, and strategically plan for the future. Clients come to individual therapy to explore their struggle with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, grief, phobias, obsessive compulsive tendencies, gender identity, gender specific issues, fear of abandonment, trauma, relationships, communication, and more. Sessions are 50-60 minutes.
